KOS Web updated

I've finally taken the time to update the KOS web pages a bit. Hit the link on the menu at the right to check it out.

DC Knowledge Base

Posted by Dan on 2004-03-08 23:19:05

One thing that has been fairly lacking in the DC world is one centralized, coherent location for all things DC homebrew knowledge related to reside. Tonight I decided to set up an experimental Wiki to address this issue. I've sort of started the structure off, and everyone is welcome to contribute. If you have comments, please give me an email (bard at allusion.net).

I'm putting a lot of trust in all of you by just making this available with no required registration or authentication per se (just make yourself a WikiName), so please use it seriously :)

DreamIce and DreamFreeze

Posted by Dan on 2004-01-22 15:32:58

After years and years of molding on my hard disk, I've finally taken the time to put together the various DreamIce-related pieces together into one archive. DreamFreeze is the DC-on-DC emulator I used to reverse a lot of early hardware support for KOS. This is mainly of historical purpose, unless for some reason you want to experiment with some SH4 assembly code in a nice controlled way or something. :) There's also a new program called DryIce included with it that runs SH4 code on a host PC with console interaction, designed for regression tests (hint, hint GCC :).

You can grab the Zip file or the tar.gz file.

KOS Homepage

Posted by Dan on 2003-10-23 15:01:05

I have finally taken the time to make a home page for KallistiOS after all these years. :) You can find it here:

http://gamedev.allusion.net/softprj/kos/

On that page you'll find basic info about what KOS is, how to obtain it, and how to join the mailing lists. The second item is actually really important because KOS is no longer developed through the CVS repository on SourceForge. It is now hosted through Subversion. So if you want to keep up with the latest developments you'll need to check that out.

DreamOn Contest

MetaFox has announced his DreamOn Dreamcast game competition, with a grand prize of a professional run of your game and US$25. Follow this link to the Cryptic Allusion forums for more info.

External G2Bus Info

Posted by Dan on 2003-08-25 23:09:48

My friend Andrew and I did a bit of tinkering on the DC's "external" port tonight using a logic analyzer and an oscilloscope, and I decided to go ahead and formalize this (along with info collected elsewhere on the net) into a doc explaining how the thing works. You can find it here.

dcload-ip 1.0.4 released

Posted by Dan on 2003-08-15 18:28:57

Title says it all... this is mainly just a bunch of bugfixes since 1.0.3, and also Lan Adapter support is included in the same binary as Broadband Adapter support.

Changelog/Notes: http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=178294
Download: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=23791

UPDATE -- The "scrambled" 1st_read.bin that was included with the binary archive wasn't actually scrambled. My apologies to anyone who has already wasted a CD there. A new version has been uploaded.

KOS 1.2.0 Posted

Posted by Dan on 2003-05-22 20:20:35

Subject line says it all... I decided that since it's been so long and the codebase is relatively stable now, might be a good time to switch to a 1.2.x version number. We'll probably stick with this series for a few more bugfix releases, and then move on to 1.3.x.

As mentioned on the Sourceforge mailing list, I am no longer distributing binaries with KOS releases. They are a pain to generate and take up huge amounts of space and upload time. Also, I figure if you can compile KOS binaries at all, you can probably compile KOS itself. :)

Apparently some people are still listening out there to this thing ;) so I'll continue to put KOS-related updates here for the moment.

Anybody home? :)

Posted by Dan on 2003-05-13 23:35:50

Holy cow, does anyone even read this anymore? It seems that I haven't updated the site since February, and the last released KOS was December!! Unacceptable, Dan! *smack smack*

Anyhow, Feet of Fury has finally pretty much reached completion, so a new KOS release will finally be posted before too long. It probably has the longest changelog of any KOS yet, and all of it's good! If anyone's actually reading this still, let me know. Otherwise I might just take it down and rework it into other things I've got up on the web.

KLEZ making rounds

Posted by Dan on 2003-02-06 14:50:23

Our good ol' friend KLEZ seems to be making rounds. I've received a number of emails with it attached "from" various dcdev people over the past couple weeks, and apparently people have even started seeing it with a from of my bard-dcdev address (which is quite humorous since I don't even have Windows any machines myself). As usual, just delete these. If it's your machine that's sending them then PLEASE FIX IT!!
